Conflict? I don’t run from it; I run to it.
Why? Because decisions end confusion and I am able to move on with my life knowing what I am working or dealing with. When I look back over the years, there have been many situations and circumstances that I avoided which did not help me in the long run – instead, it prolonged my pain.
Now, I know that I had to grow into these shoes. It wasn’t easy. However, it was the repeated patterns in my life that allowed me to see how important it is to face your conflict head-on. Please note, there is always a better way to do things – so your method should be sound and strategic. The bull in the china shop just wreaks havoc! I never approach a situation without considering the best way and the perspectives of all parties involved.
The other patterns I look for is the lessons in the pain. They are there…sometimes you have to squint to see it, but there is at least one lesson. The question I ask myself is, “What could I have done better? Not the other person(s), but ME. You see, I cannot change other people, they have to do their own work.
Do you avoid or confront issues?
What strategy do you use to resolve conflict?
