Structure: coherent form or organizationMerriam Webster Dictionary
A couple of years ago, I blogged about focusing on consistency. The overarching message was that I needed structure to be consistent. I have always struggled to do things the same way or at least in a consistent manner for an extended period of time.
I love to mix-it-up with everything I do. I even change driving routes intentionally because I get bored easily with repetition. That is why I understand how much my students struggle with the same notions. I try to give them variety in the classroom. Researched evidence-based educational text advice is to maintain a strict structure so the students feel safe.
Ironically, I don’t feel safe repeating the same routines. I never have. Maybe it’s just my personality type. I feel a lack of creativity and staleness when I am not able to change things up at will. Perhaps my desire to be nimble is tied to my survival instinct. There could be a little fight or flight kicking in with me. I must be in control so I can change course at will. That is simply my Truth!
